Pieces of Italy II

One of the cities I visited in southern Italy was Tursi. Set in a hilltop, the town grew around an original muslim setlement. Today there are still muslim architecture details well visible in the old town. The most impressive thing abot Tursi and most of the cities in that region, is that they are built on this hills of wet sand with thousands of years. This makes this cities the worst place to be during an earthquake. Almost every house has a basement wich is dug on the wet sand. You can actually dig this caves with your bare hands and you can find shells buried in that milenial sand

Pieces of Italy

I was fortunate enough to spend one month touring Italy last Autumn. I decided to share some of the best photos from that month along with a brief description of the place and photo.

This first photo is a painting from Pompei. I spent a day there just touring the ruins of this ancient city. The most amazing thing about it is how well preserved is the roman way of life. A tour trough Pompei must always be complemented with a visit to the Napoli Museum where all the artwork from the city can be found.

I tried to show the colors of this paintings has they where when they where painted and also with the dim light of the interior of a building.
